This viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Glenfinnan Viaduct, a 380-meter-long railway viaduct that curves majestically through the Scottish Highlands. The viaduct's 21 arches rise 30 meters above the ground, creating a dramatic and imposing structure that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding rugged landscape. Visitors can park nearby and walk to the viewpoint, which offers a panoramic perspective on the viaduct and the stunning scenery of the Glenfinnan Estate.
Stunning view onto the "hogwarts train". It takes around 20-30min to reach the second and best viewpoint starting from the train station. Parking near the train station is possible and free, but nearly impossible to find a free spot. Parking in the village is full already 2h earlier than the train arrives. Plan enough time.
Lovely place to visit and see the train pass by. Be careful with the time and where to go, there is an easy way to de spot and a difficult one. Recommend to go with car or a tour ( didn't see public transport regularly)
This is the point where Harry Potters movie was filmed in scotland where he drives the car over a train passes through this trek. Surprisingly, it became the most visited tourist destination in the Scotland where Harry Potter fans come to see the train passes through this trek, from all over the world and we were also there. You need to reach between 9am to 9.15am maximum to find a parking spot which is 5 quids. Otherwise, you've to park on the road side which is quite far away and you'll be lucky to find a spot. From parking it's just a 5 minute walk. Train passes bw 10.45am-11am. Bugs are super annoying at this place so net head/face cover is must to avoid bugs otherwise, this place is super annoying due to bugs. Keep a rain coat and hiking shoes with you and a brolly .
If you take the morning train from Fort William to Glenfinnan station you have about an half hour to get from the station to the viewpoint. Signs on the station takes you on the trail, which is a beautiful walk. With a normal regular pace there is plenty of time to catch the stream train on the bridge. Be aware, can be very crowded with Potterheads.
Take the trail and keep walking until you cross the viaduct from under and then climb the hill to get the arched view of the viaduct. They have times posted for when the steam train will pass on the viaduct. Research that before you go to March with your itinerary. Usually, it's 4 times a day. The view on the other side is even more beautiful. There was also a bagpiper performance at the outdoor cafe. Cafe only have fries for vegetarians
Do it! The 'hike' to the overhead view point takes about 15 mins, a little steep at end but all on stoned pathway. Can b sloppy, wear hiking boots. View is spectacular!
