We use PI hotels a lot for UK stays. The newport hotel is the nicest we have stayed in so far. A big thank you to Liam for meeting my room request with allocation of suitable room overlooking the river, and kudos for keeping calm with difficult people in the hot and stuffy reception. We thoroughly enjoyed looking out at the river and watching the wildlife and boats. Our room was clean and the usual comfort standards were met. The Beefeater next door was also the nicest pub restaurant we have experienced in the past few years. The layout is comfortable, nice clientele and the food was so very good. All of the staff were speedy, friendly and helpful. We have to give a special mention to Bailey the barman. Super quick and friendly service and very presentable. We had a memorable stay for all the right reasons.
THE POSITIVES||Clean|Tidy|Comfy |Beef eater next door|Free parking|Beautiful view of the river||||THE NEGATIVES||DO NOT ignore previous reviews about the lack of air con like me! I read them & thought oh how bad can it be. |Let me tell you it is absolutely horrendous!|The heat generated in the rooms, lobby, hallways is unreal! It's almost like the heating is on (it wasn't) & the fan provided did nothing. ||My children were so distressed for hours trying to sleep & we're starting to feel quite unwell due to the lack of fresh air. That I ended up taking them to the car in the middle of the night so they could cool down for a little while. |The heat is unbearable. I myself was starting to feel very sick. Hanging out the one window that opened 3inch just for any breath of fresh air. It really is that bad. |Highly recommended you DONT book if you have babies or small children. ||Having said that, it was very clearly stated when booking there was no air con so it's my own fault.
Stayed at the Isle of Wight Premier Inn for a family funeral. Had spoken to the Receptionist a few days prior to my stay, and when I arrived, it was the same Receptionist who remembered our conversation. The room was very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The breakfast at the Beefeater next door was excellent. My stay was on a very hot day and there was no air-conditioning in my room. It wasn't until I arrived that I saw people leaving where they had taken their own portable air-conditioning (Dyson fans!), but it didn't really affect my stay.
This hotel is in serious need of renovation. The sliding bathroom door did not have a guide rail on the floor and had been trimmed very badly. Easy for a little one to get splinters from. The bathroom sink had black mould in the overflow. The first night the gentleman receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. Next morning the female receptionist was too busy giggling on the phone to return our greeting. The food is a bit pricey for someone who doesn't want to stuff themselves, but the staff were pleasant. If you don't want to be disturbed by trades people coming and going, don't have a ground floor room facing car park. We won't be staying there again.
Room was far too hot and sleep impossible. Location was good. I accept no aircon but hotel and room were hot and uncomfortable. Had to buy another fan and small aircon unit. Hot water came out of cold taps! Staff knew this was an issue and just said it was always like that in the summer. Really poor on an island full of hotels!

I have given one star throughout as I do not want the extra stars for the actual Hotel we would have given to detract from this post. We stayed at the Hotel quite comfortably and hotel staff were excellent. We paid for the meal deal which included a drink 2 course meal and breakfast for 3 nights in a row. The first two nights the staff in the Beefeter restaurant were excellent. On the third night when Simon was in charge it went downhill quickly. He snuffled all the time he was dealing with you and constantly wiping his hand across his face and handling the menus as he took us to the table. A new young member of staff who said she was so new she didn't have her name tag yet served us and we asked if we could pay the difference between the free two glasses of wine and a bottle and she said....of course you can. We came to pay the bill with Simon and he wanted us to pay full price for PS21 for the bottle of wine on top of the meal deal. We told him we had already asked if we could pay the difference. He said it was not possible. We said we had asked the new girl and she said OK. What angers us most apart from his lack of hygiene is that he asked the girl and she said she didn't say that when she clearly did. I left PS20 in cash of the PS21 and vowed never to visit again. Maybe Beefeater associated with good hotels needs looking at?
