There are more Crimean War Trophy Guns on public display, not in a museum or building and accessable 24 hours a day, than there are WW1 and WW2 examples. The 26 pounder Sevastopol Russian cannon outside of Ludlow Castle is a well preserved example. Originally a navy gun, it was captured after the Siege of Sevastopol. It is well worth taking a few minutes on your way to and from the castle to take a look at this relic from another place and age.

When you approach Ludlow Castles entrance you cannot miss this huge cannon which stands guard outside.....You would naturally assume it belongs to the Castle but like me you would be totally wrong...... It's actually a 26 pounder Sevastopol Russian cannon captured by British forces during the Crimean War of 1853-1856......It was presented as a trophy of war to the town where it now stands for all to see.....
