I'm up and down this path way, all the time. Taken interest in the Hat factory, and the Sock factory that was. The town was allowed to become a Market town and grown since. The canal and waterways that go to Coventry, North to Tamworth and beyond.

There is always something to see here, whether it's narrowboats passing through the locks or wildlife along the canal corridor. There is a small 'depot' for the Canal and River Trust volunteers who help to operate the locks, with a little second hand book stall outside it. Right by the locks you can see the derelict Grade 2 listed Brittania hat factory, which was central to Atherstone's history. It's especially worth coming to visit when there are floating shops moored here. You can check the RCTA social media for details of the 'official' floating markets, but this is an excellent place to spot informal groups of roving canal traders too. On the day we visited we saw Holly the Cafe Boat, Kay selling her beautiful painted bargeware, and artists Hannah and Ant.

Very nice place to visit. On a good day you see some boats going through.

Nice easy walk from the Top Lock 1 down to lock 5 & back through the Town. Obviously free & picturesque. Great for respectful dog walkers. Free bookstand may be available at Top lock. Can you volunteer with the Canal & River Trust?

Easy walk into Atherstone town centre from the canal, but a shame that the Conservative Club had hung their Union Jack flags upside down! We were looking for a cafe etc to have a lunch. Found one with a pub within a shopping complex and had just ordered when someone came and asked for a 1st aider as an elderly lady had fallen. We had a coastguard person with us and he took charge of her. 2 hours for the ambulance to arrive.
