It is a beautiful building and signs invite visitors to come and look around. There are information notices all around and several areas where you can light a candle for a small donation. There is also a small shop and cafe area (very reasonably priced) and toilets. There was a photographic exhibition, and we were invited to vote for our three favourites with a chance to win our first favourite. It was a very enjoyable visit.

Selby Abbey was founded in 1069 and is a fantastic medieval church. The volunteers were able to show us some of the fascinating features and history of the church. It is the most impressive church i have visited. A gide book is available in the gift shop and cafe.

Brilliant place to go and look at. So beautiful and historical. Free to enter although we did leave a donation and best of all it's dog friendly!

Firstly payable parking is available nearby, then it's a flat walk to the Abbey. Absolutely breathtaking inside and out, we were greeted by a most friendly and charming guide. His knowledge and enthusiasm was outstanding. I enquired about any old graffiti and he kindly showed me two examples. Wonderfully presented, with a lovely cafe onsite selling cakes and drinks. No entrance fee, but donations welcome. Definitely the highlight of Selby.

Oh what a gem. Its beautiful. With its superb vaulted ceilings. But what made it for me was meeting chatting with 93year old David, who was quietly sitting his motorised Scotter by the front door. He said he had been coming to the Abbey since 1938. What he didn't know, was not worth knowing. He was recounting lovely social events, such as when he met the Queen in April 1969, when she visited Selby on the Royal Train, to distribute Royal Maundy (displayed in the South Transept) Someone in Selby should put a video on people like him. His social history is something to be cherished. Also look out for the beautiful Stations of the Cross. Lovely way to spend a peaceful relaxing hour or so. Check it out.

A fantastic place set in the heart of the town. There are a few pay and display car parks nearby with a short walk to the abbey. Once there, it is free to wander round with a guide book or information panels dotted about. There is a cafe and toilets and a bit of a gift shop. If you feel up to it, you can book on a tower tour through the Eventbrite app and see the clock and bells. The climb up involves some narrow stairs and the last bit on to the roof is up a secure ladder but the view is fantastic
