Bolton Castle is a surprise. It's fairly small but beautiful inside and the gardens are gorgeous. It's a semi ruin so there's a lovely mix of intact rooms and ruins. PS15 per adult to enter and this includes birds of prey display by a very knowledgeable falconer and the wild hogs feeding time. We arrived at 11am and didn't leave until after 4pm so it is a full day. The tearoom was very nice. Coffee and cakes very good. There are also a few walks near by that are accessible. We went as two adults but if you were taking children I'd say there's plenty to keep them happy and occupied. Really great place

The price was steep at PS15 plus PS5 parking, think PS5 for castle would be more reasonable. The grounds was well kept, the castle was very rundown in areas, other than the bedrooms dressed for previous residents. The best was the bird of prey display and views from the garden area was spectacular.

Very good example of a 600 year old medieval castle. Paid entry PS15 for the tour plus PS5 pay to park your car so expensive. The wild boar feeding was interesting, and the views were impressive.

Called to visit the gardens as we'd a 2 for 1 offer from Gardeners World so it only cost us PS5 to enter. It was a lovely day but it was at the beginning of May so probably not the best time to see a garden. Not much was in flower and we were too early to see the bees but it's a pleasant, if small, area to walk round. The 4 stars are given as the man on admissions was so lovely -such a laugh and the girl in charge of the falconry was so genuinely interested in the birds. She was a delight to talk to. Thank you for giving us your time. Having seen what the rest of the castle has to offer I doubt we would go back and pay the entrance fee. The cafe is large and the fire was on. There's a good choice of cake and some pies. The date slice was very good but the coffee cake was dry. The staff were very pleasant and it was less than PS13 for two coffees and two pieces of cake. Very reasonable. The cafe can be accessed without having to pay to go in the castle BUT there is a charge for the car park. It is possible to park on the main road of the village (the village is small but beautiful with amazing views) but I can imagine it would soon become a nuisance in summer. It is possible to walk there across footpaths from Redmires.

A really good day out. Lovely scenery around with plenty of walks. The castle was not too staged so it gave a feel of how a medieval castle might have felt and the falconry demonstration was very good with good interaction with the crowd. We had coffee and cake in the cafe and the carrot cake was excellent. It felt that there was lots for children including the small maze, dressing up, writing with quill pens.

Absolutely one of the best historic castles in England, its part ruined but there's a large part that has all the original rooms left. Absolutely loads to see, the room where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, the hall, dungeon, basement and lots of original rooms. I would advise that there is quite a lot of spiral stairs and may not be too suitable for People with mobility problems. The grounds have a maze, gardens and a bird of prey displays. Altogether a fantastic castle to visit
