About
Home to over 155 species and set in 60 acres of parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo hosts many different habitats, from the humid home of our Komodo Dragons to our very own Africa plain, Kingdom of the Wild, home to white rhino, giraffes, ostrich, zebra and kudu. We also have many fantastic undercover areas, so you can stay warm and dry on even the wettest of days. Stop by the Rajang's Forest and see if you can hang for as long as an orangutan, feed our rainbow lorikeets in their tropical walkthrough aviary, Australian Rainbows. PLUS you can also walk through areas such as Worlds Apart, the perfect place to warm up on a chilly day!

We recently visited Colchester Zoo with our family and had a fantastic time! The zoo is beautifully maintained, with a wide variety of animals and plenty of engaging exhibits. The interactive experiences, like feeding the giraffes and seeing the sea lion show, were highlights for us. The layout is family-friendly, with lots of places to rest and play areas for the kids. Overall, it was a fun and educational day out that we all enjoyed. Highly recommend for families looking for a great day out!
A Memorable Day at Colchester Zoo I recently had the pleasure of visiting Colchester Zoo with some friends and their kids to celebrate a very special occasion--my good friend's husband's 40th birthday. The day turned out to be a delightful experience for both the adults and the kids, filled with fun, laughter, and a good dose of nature. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how well-maintained and organized the zoo was. The layout made it easy to navigate, even with a group, and the variety of animals on display was simply fantastic. We were especially captivated by the big cats and the elephants, which were a hit with the kids. The zoo's efforts in conservation and the detailed information provided about each animal's habitat and behaviour were both educational and engaging. One of the highlights of our day was enjoying the food and drinks we brought along. We found several picturesque picnic spots within the zoo where we could relax and indulge in our homemade treats. It was the perfect way to break up the day and recharge before continuing our exploration. The zoo also had plenty of interactive experiences for the kids, from feeding the animals to exploring the play areas, which kept them entertained and engaged throughout the visit. The staff were friendly and always ready to help, making the experience even more pleasant. Overall, our day at Colchester Zoo was a huge success. It was a perfect setting to celebrate a milestone birthday while enjoying quality time with friends and their families. I would highly recommend a visit to Colchester Zoo, whether you're an animal lover, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply someone who enjoys a well-organized and welcoming environment.
I visited the Zoo on Wed, it was a Fab day out. My 3 kids loved it, well worth it although ticket prices are expensive due to school holidays. Would recommend taking a picnic as the prices were very steep for what you get and not much choice of food! Other than that its a brilliant family day out. All the staff seemed very friendly. Lots of different animals to see. This is the only zoo I have visited where I have genuinely needed the full day to explore everything and I am still not confident we got to every enclosure. All in all an amazing day, would definitely recommend if you are looking for a zoo to visit. Highly recommend comfy shoes as a lot of walking is involved . I managed to do 15,000 steps at the zoo.
Best zoo I've visited, clean and tidy, staff helpful and friendly. Bonus you can use tesco club points for free admission! Plenty to do, the site is massive! All animals looked healthy and well looked after. One big bonus was so much seating everywhere, much needed on a hot day and especially as it's a little hilly. Food a bit expensive but you can take your own food with plenty of tables dotted around. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
What a fantastic day out! If you're new to the zoo, I highly recommend grabbing a map and following the arrows. We chose to explore on our own, but we ran out of time and didn't see everything--yes, there's that much to do! Definitely worth a visit.
Had a great day here. 4 adults, 4 kids, everyone enjoyed it. There's plenty going on so there's not much of a wait to see and do stuff as everyone was not all compacted in one area. Staff were helpful, friendly and cheerful. We took a picnic so cannot comment on the food..parking plentiful and you get a wristband if you go out of the zoo so you can re enter. Will certainly return.
