Excellent zoo experience, everything was in easy walking distance. The compounds seemed to be appropriate sizes for the animals they contained. The historical castle ruins provide an excellent setting. One warning about this review: Dudley is my home town although I live in the home counties now, so I may be displaying unconscious bias.
As an inner city park, it's not huge. It's still quite big and it is set within the castle ruins grounds, so there's a lot of sloped walkways. It doesn't disappoint though, loads of interesting exhibits and a few food outlets. Walk around slowly and go back if you don't see any animals the first time, they are usually seen a bit later in the day. Castle is good, there's a great exhibition in the lower room and it is very informative. It ends up at the bats enclosure.
My visit to the zoo and castle was fun! Loads of animals to see and we're quite funny too! A great place to walk around forgetting your legs getting tired. If you don't fancy walking you can catch a road train around the zoo. My favourite ride was the skylift.
A great zoo with plenty of animals & ones different to other zoos I have been too. Easy to get around & see everything. The castle ruins sit atop the hill looking down on the zoo. Also a museum exhibit detailing history of the castle. Enjoyed using the chairlifts down the hillside.
Me and my family had a wonderful day at Dudley Zoo (Fri 16th Aug) - the sun was shining, saw SO many animals & I even went up/ back down on the cable car Loved going through the Lorikeet Lookout, we literally had them land on us as soon as we walked in the door Kids had lots of fun on the park area and fun fair. Definitely want to visit again soon!
The castle is great and steeped in so much history. The grounds are great and well maintained. The zoo is a very big let down however. So many animals not around or empty places. Haven't been for 20 years and probably won't ever go back again. It was once a great place a very long time ago and it hasn't got that magic back. Also in this day and age I'm shocked the zoo isn't a smoke free place. Especially with so many kids around. Let down by a poor zoo so many better zoo's to visit.
