I recently visited Ely Cathedral with my daughter's school, and it was an unforgettable experience! The grandeur of the cathedral is truly awe-inspiring, with its stunning architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. The kids were fascinated by the history and the incredible details throughout the building. The guided tour was both educational and engaging, making it a perfect blend of learning and fun. I highly recommend a visit to Ely Cathedral for anyone, especially families and school groups. It's a must-see landmark that leaves a lasting impression!
We are locals who are regular visitors. We enjoyed the exhibition of statues dotted around the cathedral. The staff were helpful and shared information about the heads destroyed by Oliver Cromwell, something we hadn't noticed before. It's such a beautiful building to walk around. Given 4 stars due to having to pay to enter despite being local (we live outside the free eligible postcodes!)
This is the most majestic of Cathedrals. Founded by St Etheldreda, a strong Noble WOMAN. It's actually bigger than Westminster Abbey. The building is predominantly Norman but there are later additions as it's common with all buildings of that age. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable.
This is the attraction where I will happily take any visitors to the local area. It's really fun to watch their reactions as you take them up the towers and across the roof, but the whole building is incredibly impressive with a great history that adds rich character to the region. Each of if the tour guides are hugely knowledgeable and add extra depth to the experience. The entry price is very expensive. The ticket gives repeat visits for a year, but for single trip tourists the value is quite a bit lower.
We did the tower climb up all 266 steps, and it was great. The guide was informative, and the views were breathtaking with a 360 view over Ely. There was no rush, the groups were just the right size, and the cost was reasonable. It was a really fun activity for the family.
A very big cathedral for one of the smallest cities in the UK. Located right in the middle of Ely. Tickets were PS14 and so we decided not to go in on this day but you can enter the gift shop and lobby area to take photos. You can also go in for free for worship and pray. There is a herb garden and flower garden that you can visit, outside the cathedral. As of June 2024, there is a 'Am I my brother's keeper?' An exhibition of sculptures by Sean Henry in the cathedral, two can be seen outside. Definitely worth a visit even if you decide not to pay for admission.
