Peaceful, quiet, serene. We encountered birds, dragonflies, butterflies and many snails on plants. There was a very small stream running along the path just before the bridge (by the Newton Picnic area) that we seen a small fish swimming in. It's a beautiful walk into naturesque scenery. We walked down the Great Central from where it joins Newton Manor Lane all the way up to the Newton Picnic area where there are 3 picnic benches located off the side of the carpark. We had a lovely picnic here on a warm, sunny day.
Still a nice quiet walk. Squirrels, birdlife.. including the odd red kite (not sure where the Buzzards went). There are rabbits past newton picnic area (the M6 end - where the trail stops)
I love this walk. It can get very muddy so wellies needed if it's been raining but I walk this most weeks as I live near the middle part. You can drive to Newton and park up and there is a carpark and a picnic area. Lovely in the summer too.
The abandoned Great Central Railway, a mainline that should never have closed. Some beautiful arch bridges along the way & great for cycling, walking, running & photographers !
Parking at Newton picnic area, off Newton Lane, walking on the old Great Central Railway route, about a mile to Newton Manor Lane, which dissects the route, you can reach Butlers Leap. On the way there are numerous other footpaths, leading east & west, to Clifton, Coton Park, Brownsover. Totally level, apart from up/down from picnic parking.
Nice place, if you like walking with a forest, a lots of people visit it with dogs. 3 benches there ,you can take a rest or eating there. I love it !!!
