Myself and my girlfriend had a tour of the guildhall today by Richard who done an excellent job telling us about Lincoln's rich history and how long the guildhall has been stood. Richard even took us downstairs where a whole range of swords are and was allowed to hold the same swords King Henry VII and King Richard II once used! Richard was a very passionate tour guide who you could tell enjoys his job and is passionate about Lincoln's history and keen to pass on his wisdom. Would 100% recommend coming to the Guildhall especially as its free! Thanks Richard for a memorable day!

Absolutely brilliant free tour and talk on the Guild Hall, learning about it's history including it's importance as a wool town. You wait outside the closed door and are greeted at the tour start time. Once inside you go up an amazing 16th Century staircase (which slants considerably), into the main meeting room. The tour moves on to look at a silver sword from Richard II and Royal Charters dating from 12th Century. Our guide was outstanding, his knowledge and enthusiasm made this a very enjoyable visit.

I visited the Guildhall on a pre-booked tour as part of the Lincoln Festival of History. I only had to pay PS2.50 per person for the tour, but was informed it used to be free! Except people kept booking and not turning up. I can't believe they even offer this tour for free, it's an incredible tour and well worth the time to do. It's not a short tour, mine was 2 hours long, but my only regret is that it wasn't longer! The 2 hours fly by. The tour guides are very knowledgeable, take their time to answer any questions any people have, and seem to be genuinely enthusiastic and enjoy being custodians of the Guildhall which is really refreshing. I really enjoyed seeing all the old charters going back through the history, and didn't really appreciate just how important Lincoln was historically until I went on this tour. I think every council could take a leaf out of Lincoln council's book. The history of cities should be as accessible as Lincoln make it. I am so pleased I went on the tour, it was the highlight of my visit to Lincoln, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

What an amazing place to visit! We spent a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours being shown around this historic building. Our friendly guide, Colin was very knowledgeable and obviously really had a passion for what he was doing. We were lucky enough to meet the mayor of Lincoln as well! There are some truly historic items to see in this 800 year old building, with foundations that date back to Roman times. A must see uf you're in Lincoln and it's free!
