Lovely little place. It's a short walk around so you couldn't really get more than an hour or two out of it unless you participated in the events/talks/experiences etc and maybe grab a coffee in the cafe. That said I don't have young children so they may be able to drag it out for hours! Even so, us adults still enjoy seeing the animals.

Small but quite lovely. A nice range of different animals but is not a petting zoo which a lot of young families thought it might be. Cafe is nice and reasonably priced. Good way to kill a couple of hours.

When arriving at Rodbaston Animal Zone it looks a good place with well made animal statues on the driveway into the carpark. The carpark is a bit lumpy with quite big stones under the wheels. The entrance is a really nice log cabin with helpful staff with a smile. The entrance is also the visitor centre where there are tables and chairs where you can eat lunch from their menu or you can bring in your own food like we did Walking around the animal zone I was a bit disappointed with the state of the animal cages and pens. The glass on most if the reptile tanks were covered inside with a white film and dirty and hard to see through. Some of the vegetation in the tanks were old and dying. On the hour there were animal experiences at different locations on site to learn more about certain animals, like Otters and monkeys. They were informative but not very long. Outside in the animal pens it looked like the meerkat was alone and being a family animal I felt quite sorry for the little thing. There are some good points, that they are rebuilding new enclosures for new animals which looks good but I hope they don't let them go the way most of the other enclosures are. Michaela Strachan opened the Zone in 2008 and I bet it looked superb, but I don't think she would be impressed with the way it looks at present. Overall, a good 2 to 3 hours for young children to see and learn about different animals. The zone lacks on a petting area for the children. Children love to interact with animals but you can pay for a close up experience, but think a free petting area would be of an advantage. Is it worth the money you pay to get in, ummm maybe.

Excellent facilities for learning animal care at the college giving a real hands on course. Little cafe & zoo facilities for a visit to see the animals.
