Visited on a Saturday, it wasn't over busy, and we did a self guided tour, which worked better for our group than a guided tour. We took our time and had a great experience. Alot of history at the prison and only recently closed as a prison, so its interesting to see a more current prison environment and what life behind bars was for them recently. Nice little restaurant also on site and staff were friendly. Great visit thank you.

A fantastic visit, we had the guided tour , our guide was a lovely fella called Grahame , he was informative & very good at what he did . We all found it very interesting & really enjoyed the whole experience. Would highly recommend to anyone who has any sort of interest in either history or prison life or in fact both .

This was a real working prison until 2013. You can tour the prison, see where they check the prisoners in , see inside all the cells and there's also a drop room where they used to hang people! They also have an escape room option which I didn't do as I was with my children. It was a real insight to what it would be in prison.Definitely not wheelchair or pram friendly. There's a cafe and a little gift shop.

Absolutely fantastic guided tour of the prison. I was looking forward to this but it exceeded my expectations. Graham our guide who has worked within the prison service for 38 years was just brilliant. So informative, so interesting and so humourous, could've easily carried on the tour for longer and we went on past the time anyway as we were all so engaged and was happy for Graham to carry on. An absolute credit to the prison service and to this now as a tourist attraction. Highly recommend this tour to anyone and I personally would say to go for the guided tour as the information you are given is absolutely priceless. Thank you.

Had an extremely interesting, informative and amusing tour today, with the ex prison warden Graham. The whole experience was worth the PS22 entrance fee several times over. After the tour, you are free to walk around the prison at your leisure. Sadly though, the 'Sparks' band T-Shirt I was wearing just wasn't appreciated...some people just don't appreciate great (Category A) music....eh, Graham . Thanks again for a splendid tour.

Our visit lasted well over two hours and we found it a sobering but very interesting experience. The staff were friendly and the tour allowed access to most of the jail. Notice boards explained each area but the experience would have been improved with a knowledgeable guide. I wouldn't recommend taking young children as there is little to entertain them and wheelchair users would struggle with access. Refreshments were reasonably priced and there was good access to toilet facilities. Being a relatively young museum there are improvements to be made but it is still worth a visit.
