It's a nice peaceful place for walking/jogging or cycling. The path is hard standing from the bridge over the canal but once you get so far down the trail roughly where my two pictures show it can get very muddy if the weather has not been dry.

the section from Wolverhampton down towards Himley is wonderful, it's wide sealed pathway with beautiful surrounding countryside and bird song and some interesting graffiti murals. There's a little cafe in Wombourne (platform) although it's got limited opening times - I didn't go in myself but it did look pretty good. there are a number of benches and litter bins spread out along this route and it's flat and suitable for regular shoes. a regular road bike would be able to cope but there are one or two little bits and mud but nothing that you stops you. The reason for just 3 stars is because the section from Himley south to Pensnett is pretty awful - the surrounding area is horrible and consists of mainly heavy industry quarries or scrap yards. There is also a travellers site there in which you've got to be careful of some noisy dogs and there's lots of fly tipping. the path itself is in terrible condition with lots of standing water and mud even on a warm sunny day in May - you can't get through this area without good walking boots and it would be impossible to cycle unless you had a really good mountain bike. so overall I've only given the walk 3 out of 5 stars but that's because it's an aggregation of the brilliant Wolverhampton to Wombourne section and the terrible Pensnett to Himley section.

The section between Himley and Castle Croft is now a disgrace. The path in a lot of places is completely bogged down so you cannot ride your push bike. The weeds, shrubbery and trees need cutting back as it is closing the path and branches are in the way. When I first started using this path in 2004 it was beautiful and very well maintained. Come on SSC get on top of it please

Nice bike ride with two station cafes which was closed. We started in Wolverhampton and cycled the 12 miles or so to Fey Pool. The start was very good terrain, but nearing the end it turned into rubble and mud, it was obviously being used as a scramble track by the locals. Not bad but the last 2 miles need sorted big time.

Nice safe route to cycle with the kids. If walking, can get muddy in parts so make sure you don't wear your best shoes!

I walk the Wombourne part of the walk daily. I also walk other railway walks around the country and this is the worst cared for walk: low hanging branches, very narrow sections that are hard to pass others and a portion by Ounsdale Road that is usually difficult and hardly passible after rain, especially for those like myself who have knee issues, etc. It would be nice if they would care for this walk more.
