About
Please be aware there are a number of access restrictions in place at the cathedral at the moment. We know that this will be disappointing for visitors, but we are maintaining access where we can. Due to essential maintenance, St Rule's Tower is currently closed. Sections of the graveyard are fenced off due to unstable gravestones. Last entry 4.45pm. The magnificent medieval ruins stand on a site used for Christian worship since the 8th century when the relics of St Andrew were reputedly brought here. The Cathedral was the seat of the leading prelate to the Scottish Church until the Reformation of 1560. Climb St Rule's Tower for a glorious view over the town.

Stunning views. Staff were very helpful. We visited on the same day as the final round of the Women's Open so it was a little harder finding a parking spot but still worth the trip.
Great architecture. It's free! So if you're heading to/in St. Andrews, then take yourself to this Cathedral as it's definitely worth the visit. There is a museum and you do need to pay to get in, but unfortunately couldn't take the time to see the museum, so if you're intrigued by the museum of the cathedral then im sure you'd enjoy it! Just in addition! There was some maintenance going whilst my visit was ongoing, so not entirely sure if this is still here, but most of the Cathedral is still accessible for exploration.
Kinda surprised this is 100% free! Beautiful ruins that are very old and the scenery is amazing! Lots of open spaces for little kids to run around, but do watch out for a few spots.
Day trip to St Andrews and as the ruins are right in town thought we'd have a look around. Gates up around a lot of the good viewpoints, a bit hard to photograph. Don't seem in a hurry to finish whatever repairs needs to be done. Yes it's old, and amazing architectural work carried out in its day but today there's not much left and I didn't think it was a must see.
Genuinely remarkable piece of history - it's great to sometimes keep these historical sites as they are, as it allows a greater understanding of the events that have unfolded around them. This in particular was interesting, highlighting the effects of the protestant reformation.
Didn't go into the museum or anything, just walked around the ruins and it was pretty cool. I can imagine how magnificent it would have been back in the day. Now the grounds are graveyard, very cool to be walking around ruins looking at old graves.
