About

Winchester Cathedral is one of the most historically significant buildings in Britain. It is located at the heart of historic Winchester, once the seat of Anglo-Saxon and Norman royal power, on the site of an early Christian Church. Today, Winchester Cathedral stands beautifully in the idyllic green spaces surrounding it, boasting the title of Europe's longest medieval Cathedral. The Old Minster, a Benedictine monastery, was the home of St Swithun and the present Cathedral was built on the orders of William the Conqueror. Begun in 1079, Winchester Cathedral has been a place of welcome and worship ever since. Please check the official Winchester Cathedral website for accurate opening times as well as closure notices before visiting.

Simply one of the most stunning cathedrals in the world. The tower tour is fantastic and the views up top are incredible. Our guides were so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. If you can handle narrow stairs and heights book the tower tour!

Superb tour of an interesting site. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and welcoming, which made it a joy. We had lunch within the cafe and the chicken salad was very good. Fresh, quality ingredients at a fair price, in a lovely setting. I recommend a visit!

Absolutely breathtaking! Definitely worth a visit. We were lucky enough to hear the choir rehearsing and the acoustics were amazing. Wasn't very busy, but we visited on a weeknight near closing. Visiting time could definitely be 1-2 hours to take in all the beauty.

Disappointed with the price to enter Winchester Cathedral. Having visited a fair few cathedrals around England this was one of the most expensive. Externally not an exciting cathedral to view as it's a classic Norman design. Internally a mix of Norman and Gothic architecture and some interesting information boards to read. Didn't take us long to get round, under an hour which probably made the entrance fee feel more expensive. If you are fans of Religious history then worth a visit.

Well worth the entrance fee, which can include a not too be missed guided tour. Apart from the stunning cathedral, find the plinth dedicated to William Walker's achievements. Without him, the building would not be standing as it is today.
