This footpath is actually an ancient lane that once led to Poplar Tree Farm. It's now an extremely enjoyable tree lined walk from the Black Track to the equestrian centre in Galley Common. You're almost guaranteed to spot wildlife, even if it's only a woodpigeon, a house sparrow or a grey squirrel... it really is a narrow slice of loveliness.

Nice walk and so peaceful. Shame the greed of our council will spoil it when all the new houses and industrial estate go up. The view has already been spoilt by industrial units.
Originally the obelisk was located within the grounds of Arbury Hall and wreaths were first laid on 22nd November 1934. The obelisk was moved to its present location prior to the George Eliot Memorial Gardens being officially opened on 1st May 1952
