15th-century battle site museum with hands-on gallery, kids activities and guided battlefield walks.
Local to us and really informative. Great location and children can use their Blue Peter badges to get in for free so that's a bonus! Beautiful setting, good food in the tithe barn and a fabulous old school gift shop (with everything from a pencil with a rubber on the top to a sword or bow and arrow) Great for History lovers, Royalists and all ages. Very accessible and the information boards around the battlefield walk are great for adults and kids alike!
We visited Bosworth Battlefield and Heritage Center on 7/1/24 at 2:30pm. Initially, I didn't have high expectations for the place due to the lack of information online. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible experience we had! The museum before the battlefield walk was fantastic, especially for kids. It provided a wealth of information about the War of the Roses, with interactive displays that catered to tactile learners. From replica weapons to life-sized statues of historical figures, the museum was engaging and educational. The dress-up center that included child sized chain, and plate armor along with the virtual experience of sticking your head into a helm to see a battle scene were particularly impressive. The museum also covered King Richard III's final moments, the crowning of Henry Tudor, and the birth of the Tudor reign. The King Richard III Sun dial and the battlefield walk further enriched our visit, making it a truly unforgettable experience. For medieval enthusiasts, this is a must-visit destination!.
Impromptu visit. Go armed with change for the car park as doesn't accept cards. You can buy a car park ticket inside though. There was a guided tour but was about 1 1/2 hours long so we decided against. We had a light lunch at noon in the barn and it wasn't busy at all. The countryside is beautiful. We walked up to the Sundial and followed the shorter route around. Richards Well was a very peaceful place and we sat and listened to the wind in the oak trees. We went through the interesting exhibition prior to our walk. I really like the fact that you were encouraged to touch the replica artifacts. I loved the sword with the hand protection. We exited through the gift shop, surprisingly high quality gifts in there and some nice little bits and pieces, great stuff for the kids too. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and we're glad we decided to visit. The tickets are valid for a year and my friend was looking forward to going back and doing the lovely walks with her dog.
Loved going to bosworth field, really big spacious cafe which serves all sorts of food and drink. The tour guide was brilliant and super friendly, I can't believe how cheap it was too! We also reenacted the battle, which gives a great understanding of the events. The museum was also super interactive (which I loved) and staff were chatty and helpful. Overall 5/5, would definitely go back for their yearly events too
Great museum that's interactive including real chain mail, breast plate and a variety of different helmets to try on. Life size models dressed in the clothes of the time. Children can also do some brass rubbings to take home along with an impression of with a dragon or boar bookmark, depending on which King they think is the best. We went on a really rainy day so didn't go on any of the walks around Bosworth Field, but will be going back as the tickets are valid for 12 months, so you can return as many times as you want!!
Loved the mound and sundial and the walk around the field. Didn't go in the visitor centre as we felt we knew enough about the site. The various plaques around the perimeter walk were really informative and well presented. The battle standards flying over the mound are amazing and I loved the sundial. Great cafe too.
