A 265-hectare woodland area featuring walking trails, picnic spots, and scenic views, with a variety of flora and fauna, including ancient trees, wildflowers, and wildlife such as deer and birds.
A lovely place to wander around listening to the birds and the wind in the trees, enjoying the ponds. I spent an hour parked in the car park in my camper-van just listening to the sounds of people enjoying themselves while making a brew! Toilets basic but well maintained. The two walks are easy for adults and children alike! Bring boots especially after rain as it can get very muddy!
Beautiful kept woodland. We visit all year round it's definitely worth buying the yearly pass for the car park. There are toilets on site a small playground. The majority of dog owners in the area pick up after their animals but sadly there are still some neanderthals who don't so do keep an eye out. The woods themselves are stunning and it's definitely worth getting off the paths and taking a walk through the undergrowth.
Used to be nice years ago but is no longer a peaceful, relaxing or enjoyable walk. Endless dog muck left to try and avoid underfoot or left hanging on trees in little bags. Can hardly hear the sounds of the woodland as the entire way round all you hear is barking and people bellowing their various dogs names. Either in that drippy high pitched voice that people insist on talking to pets or small children. Or aggressively scolding their dog if it is continuing to ignore them. Lots of dog owners also seem to ignore the signs near the lake telling them to keep their dog on the lead because of the wildfowl and let them swim in it. Same owners then seem to think it's fine to let their soaking wet dog run riot around anyone else trying to walk by. It's nice the place is dog friendly and there are plenty of nice dogs and owners along the way but it also seems to attract a lot of people who aren't very responsible owners which spoils the experience for everyone else. In short, if you want to go somewhere to relax and enjoy the tranquility of nature. Visit a different wood/forest. Abbots wood just sounds like your local park but with trees.
The perfect place to go for a walk with the family or a just a casual dog walk. Its quite easy to get lost as we were not familiar with the area but enjoyed it nonetheless - it would be nice to see more sign posts! You get a real feel for nature here, its very peaceful and great way to spend a couple of hours.
Great walk round with lots of different paths to take. Dog friendly. The lake is very pretty and there is some fantastic old trees.
Quiet and peaceful forest. Perfect for walking dogs or just walking. Has a lot of benches and tables, possibilities for barbecue. But not disposable barbecue.
