77-hectare reserve with footpaths amid grasslands, lakes & woods home to diverse birds & insects.
Beautiful place. Shame gypos and thugs dump their rubbish here. This lot (pictured) has been here for months now. Wonder when the park managers will clean it up? They're quick enough to cut down trees in the name of management but do nothing about the litter?
Hidden gem. Excellent for peaceful family walks. The reserve is well looked after. The hides for viewing are good sized and offer some excellent views across the reserve. Pack a bag with some sandwiches, a flask of your favourite warm beverage and a pair of binoculars and watch the hours dissappear. Love it here. I'm biased however as my late grandfather was chairman of the reserve for 10 years and I spent a lot of my childhood here. Now I spend time with my children there and they love it as much as I used to.
No car park,no signs, when I did find the supposed access point I found it to be a somewhat unpleasant looking turning area, where I grounded my car. Very uninspiring surroundings, website mentions limited parking on "Marsh lane" which doesn't appear to exist, the site then contradicts itself and says the "entrance" is on Fordstead Road, which is where my photo was taken, though if that's an entrance then It's extremely poor. Perhaps with a properly tarmac area and an actual sign indicating that a nature reserve actually exists it'd be good. I'm sure it's actually not bad once you can get in the godforsaken place, but without any proper entrance, car park or directions it's completely useless.
Nice quiet walk with a few hides for wildlife watching & photography but can get quite boggy and muddy
Pretty nice little walk to do with the kids. Lots of hides to view wildlife from. Nice quiet atmosphere on a winter day. Doesn't seem to be any real parking available though, except a bit of space next to a gate on Fordstead Lane.
Fantastic place to see dragon and damsel flies on hot summer days, the hides are a great place to spot birds from and overlook the lake so you are likely to catch a glimpse of something. Even walking to them you can see plenty butterflies and insects. Overall a great place for nature and the whole reserve is much larger than I thought.
