Abbot Hall is one of the UK's leading art galleries. Established in 1962 in a Grade I listed Georgian building on the banks of the River Kent in Kendal, today we are rethinking the gallery as vibrant cultural and community hub. Book your visit to see our outstanding collection ranging from historic to contemporary, as well as our inspiring exhibitions and events. From 23 March the Gilbert Spencer and Claude Cahun: Beneath this Mask exhibitions will be open.
Wonderful cafe! The service was quick and the staff, a lovely girl was so nice and efficient! I would definitely come here again as the customer service was superb and caused no issues. The cafe is very cute and shows the gallery in a positive light through the art work and selection of books for children so there's something for everyone. :)
Quite small collection but wide ranging with special exhibits from time to time. If visiting with mobility aids( scooter), it's fully accesible but a little quirky given its listed status. Staff and volunteers exceedingly helpful. Use the bloomberg app to get a full brief on the gallery
Lovely to have this on doorstep. I think best to manage expectations - it's not world class - but for what it is it's lovely and has some beautiful artwork. Great that the permanent collection is open again. I also really enjoyed the two temporary exhibitions that just opened. Can't comment on what the cafe used to be like, but it's a relaxing space and had a nice pot of tea. Very good value given you can use your ticket for a year.
Some beautiful pieces of art especially the early tryptic. Not huge but quality great. Didn't visit cafe as not recommended. Hopefully can get more space to show more. Entrance could be a bit more appealing
Lovely little cafe tucked away on the side of Abbot hall. Went round for a coffee and cake and the customer service from pearl was amazing she was very lively and friendly.
A wonderful experience in the centre of Kendal, the historical building is home to an art gallery and museum. Barbara Hepworth, Lucian Fraud are some of the highlights, a must visit.
