Free access to landmark ruins of a seaside castle built in the late 13th century by Edward I.
My daughter summed this place up really well. Most castles in England fence you off and prevent you from climbing up stairs or exploring. This one simply advises you that you do so at your own risk. It has great views out onto the bay and allows everyone to explore and enjoy it.
A well preserved and managed castle ruins. Plenty of spaces and walking routes, you can watch the old canons, outpost, area markings etc. You will get a spectacular view from the top, sunset from the castle area is an amazing visual experience.
Hilly but a nice trek. Toilets 40p even if you have a radar key. Signs to get down not visible
Almost every town and village seems to have their own set of ruins some better than others. Here they are easily accessible and free which is a huge plus in a country where everything seems to cost a fortune
Great free castle to walk around and explore. Went during holidays so is quite busy but worth a walk around.
Absolutely beautiful castle ruins with views of both the North and South beaches of Aberystwyth. Mosaic art below the castle tells you of its history, and many memories were made here during my student years. Can't forget getting rat faced with the flatmates in my first year, and eating a kebab with them on the grass, at these ruins, in the middle of the night-- good times :) (Side note: no, the castle isn't purple. I got a little experimental with my editing that day )
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
