Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery in the heart of Northumberland. Celebrating the unique heritage and ancient hospitalityof Northumberland whilst re-awakening the Northumbrian tradition for whisky distilling that has slept for over 200 years.
There is so much more I could not photograph and I wish I did to show you this place is amazing. They have combined history with a brewery and a restaurant. We went for a tour and got to try out their whiskey, gin and liqueur. The staff was lovely and the whole place .was meticulously thought out. As you can see the food both looked appealing and tasted delicious. Highly recommend anyone to visit even just for food or the museum.
We enjoyed my birthday breakfast here at Ad Gefrin. The host was warm and welcoming, in fact all of the staff and what could possibly have been the owner, were a delight to talk to. Our children had the sausage baps, whilst I really enjoyed the smashed avocado with poached eggs on rye and my hubby had the eggs benedict. All four eggs were cooked to perfection, mine spilling gorgeous yolk onto the avocado. Cappuccino and flat white were hot and tasty and I was even offered a glass of bubbly or cake as a birthday treat. The setting was stunning. Ad Gefrin is finished to such a high standard that I wished I lived closer.
Have been looking forward to this since hearing of its inception but living in the far south, it took ages for me to organise myself to visit. Worth the wait! I took the distillery tour, which for only PS25 gives you the tour (over an hour of great entertainment and information, with knowledgeable guide - and this was August when distilleries are not producing...I'll do it again when it's an operating month) as well as THREE different drinks to taste under the expert supervision of the lovely Alex. And then you get the museum experience as well! Best value. Got to see an Amazing reproduction of the Yeavering Saxon hall, as well as some artefacts that belong to the British Museum but Ive never seen on display there - including some local (Castle Eden) and VERY local (Wooler) artefacts that were stunning. Just had coffee and brownie takeaway but even that was good, and if I'd had more time I'd have eaten in the bistro - it smelt amazing. Shop had a nice range of items for every budget (lovely engraved whisky glass only a fiver, up to very posh high quality local crafted goods like pottery and woven blankets) Ended up leaving with a glass, a bottle.of their Flyte (Baileys, but BETTER - not cloyingly thick or over sweet), and a keen desire to return! Nice work, Ad Gefrin!! You really are the GOAT
Interesting new whiskey distillery in the centre of Wooler. The building inside and out is high quality and the shop and bistro are both good quality. We tried done if their gin, which was a lovely balanced drink. Worth a stop-off if driving the A697.
What a great place! Beautifully done - lovely museum, fascinating distillery tour, nice restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea (book for tea). Well worth a detour.
Met up with friends I hadn't seen for over 40 years. We had a delicious brunch, teas and coffee. Fabulous service - really friendly efficient staff. Ad Gefrin is a beautiful place to visit. Spotlessly clean, great facilities, free car park and delicious food. My Australian friends were very impressed with Ad Gefrin. A wonderful place to visit.
