Aldford Iron Bridge is a cast iron arch bridge built in 1824 over the River Dee in Aldford, Cheshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building and a notable example of an early 19th-century iron bridge. The bridge has a single span of 100 feet and features a semi-elliptical arch with a rise of 20 feet. Its ironwork is decorated with intricate patterns and ornate details, including a central keystone featuring the initials of the bridge's builder, George Borough. The bridge's abutments are built from local sandstone and feature rounded cutwaters to deflect the flow of the river. Today, the bridge is a popular tourist attraction and a beloved local landmark, offering picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the River Dee.
A grand bridge straddling the River Dee, built by William Hazledine and designed by Thomas Telford. A lovely spot along the Dee. We canoed here from Eccleston Ferry Parking ~ 2 miles back towards Chester. Beautiful stretch of the Dee with very little flow to paddle against surprisingly. Plenty of wildlife to look out for... we've spotted Buzzards, American Mink, and Kingfishers. There's a short pleasant length of the Coddington Brook tributary you can paddle along (until you reach the overhanging trees). The entrance is near to the iron bridge with the old stone Aldford bridge not too far along the brook.
What a great little hour walk from pub 2 Bridge along river back 2 village and in2 the pub
It is a very enjoyable walk for an unplanned evening, and pleases young children. There is plenty to look at, and it leaves you in a great mood for the rest of the day.
Beautiful views, clean, great looking place, relaxing surroundings. Definitely worth seeing.
Great Iron Bridge and walked over it twice doing a walking festival with Whitchurch Walking Festival in May 2024 (Shropshire) - very picturesque
Passed here on walk. Very nice but lots of insects.
