A bronze statue of Alice Nutter, a 17th-century witch who was executed during the Pendle witch trials, standing upright with her hands bound together in front of her, gazing upwards with a serene expression, situated in the market town of Nelson, Lancashire.
After many years finally got to see the Alice Nutter statue. I was reliably informed that she always has fresh flowers and sure enough... Recommend taking her a gift if you wish to visit. It's just polite
I visited on Monday 4 September 2023 and the road was closed with a diversion. I was however able to park my car and then walk past the houses and waterfall to get to this statue, as there is still a footway access for pedestrians. Hung in 1612, poor Alice. "Witch" persecutors, grrrr. Good statue, but shame she had to be made immortal through the witch hunts. Our very own Salem......
For someone who enjoys anything supernatural this is a good place to stop off and take a picture ,nice statue with information board, is in a little awkward place to stop on side of the road .
If you are visiting pendle or around the area its worth a stop off and getting some pictures. Its a great statue and well made. Love the colour it has gone due to the weathering.
Magnificent statue to a lady sadly murdered by the state. I found it poignant that she had been given fresh flowers. The statue itself is truly beautiful and the story so profoundly sad. I think it to be a landmark of sociological importance and it's definitely worth visiting.
It's basically a statue of one of the Pendle witches. Which is literally located on the side of a road not really near Pendle Hill or one of the popular walks/hikes. If you're in the area and really into Pendle and the history of the witches then I'm sure this is your thing! However, for myself and co. It just didn't really do anything for us. But saying that it was a really nice statue
Good for kids
