Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland, UK, has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years as well as a film location for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. We are currently closed to the public for the winter months and will reopen March 2024. We look forward to welcoming you back through the castle gates!
Beautiful castle grounds, art, interior, history, activities for the kids, falconry event, countryside views, cafes, and gift shop. Such a pity one cannot take photos inside. You will just have to come and experience the splendor of this amazing inhabited castle for yourself!
Wow! What a day we had there! While planning to go there I thought that the price per person was unusually high, but my partner insisted so I agreed. I am so happy she is always right! The idea that you can go to any event in the castle you want, and that there are so many well made events. I think that both very young children that need a more interactive and less informative attraction, and adults that want to learn can find so much to do in this castle. This is what is so amazing in this place. For example, they a semi-scary area with dragons and more which was very nice for children. Or for adults they have the tour inside the palace itself where you can see so many real artifacts from the royal days of the dukes that owned the area. The staff was so helpful, and the guides were very good! Everything felt so easy to reach and do. Everything is well maintained and seems like it's always changing and being upgraded. Recommend to plan on a full day (10:00-15:00) as you have so much to do there, and it would be a shame not to have enough time.
Beautiful Castle with great history. Staff were friendly helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of activities for the kids. Places to eat on site, pricing as expected. No parking on site but short and long stay parking nearby. Buy tickets in advance. Entry costs reasonable and you can return as often as you like for 12 months. Worth a visit.
What a glorious day out to see such a lovely property. The sun was out which makes a difference but the whole property was clean, well organised and had happy, enthusiastic staff. Please make sure you go on one of the many guided tours. We went on a movies based at the castle with our guide Freddie.... He was great, with lots of facts spoken with humour. Make sure you visit the state rooms and soak up the history. We will be back ...
Historic, imposing castle. State rooms well worth a visit. Some of Harry Potter filmed here. Gardens accessed separately very beautiful with fountains which will splash you if you're not careful!
We had a great visit here with the kids. There is all of the history and decadence of areas like the state rooms, alongside fun and interactive elements like broomstick training, medieval costumes and the rather scary dragon experience! Parking is limited but there are some car parks in Alnwick within easy walking distance if there are no spaces on the road adjacent to the castle. Within the castle grounds, there is also the fusiliers museum and you can walk up onto the main castle walls in some areas. For Harry Potter fans, there is the interest of spotting areas where filming took place, and there's plenty of Potter merchandise in the gift shop.
