Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, North East England. Designed by Antony Gormley, it stands 20 metres tall and has a wingspan of 54 metres, making it one of the largest sculptures of its kind in the world. The sculpture is made of 200 tonnes of steel and took 14 months to construct. It was completed in 1998 and has since become a iconic landmark in the region, attracting millions of visitors each year. The Angel of the North is often referred to as the "Gateshead Angel" and has been named as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK.
