Picturesque 9-acre woodland garden set around the tranquil shores of Loch Angus in historic Glen Lonan. Famous for its extensive collection of hybrid rhododendrons & azaleas. Visitors can enjoy an informal network of paths, lined with flowering shrubs & bulbs, through native woodland & by shoreland. Surrounded by magnificent views of Ben Cruachan & mountains of Glen Etive. Unspoilt, natural setting with wide range of wildlife, swans & ducks. The garden reaches its full glory between April and the end of June but is a place of special tranquillity and charm at all times of the year. Three marked, circular walks from car park taking between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Open daily 9am to dusk.
Beautiful, peaceful place that is well worth a visit. I was fascinated by the history of the garden and how the family nurtured and cared for it so tenderly. The scenery is stunning but you will need walking shoes/boots (can be slippery when wet). The donation to enter the garden is for charity which is lovely too - Military Forces charity.
Not really impressed. We were the only people there. Made the donation to enter. It looks like it's in need of some care. There are various gates and pathways that are in need of attention, but there are wooden walkways and bridges that are dangerous with broken or nearly broken planks. I like the story behind the garden and the setting is lovely. This is a very, very natural garden! It looks like it might have been quite impressive about a decade ago. May be worth visiting at a different time of year? I don't begrudge the entrance fee as it is for a worthwhile charity.
Lovely mature gardens, lots of wildlife and wildflowers. We took the red path which wasn't too long or hard. Recommended
Simple, beautiful, peaceful and evocative. Note, long single-track access road and no facilities.
A fun find courtesy of our B&B hosts. Well marked and honor system of payment. Didn't see any toilets. Several path options of different abilities levels. Pretty lake. You would want waterproof shoes for strenuous and longer trail around lake. Would have loved to see in summer
