Our team of enthusiastic volunteers aim to preserve and record the history and industries of the Apedale Valley and the surrounding communities. Based at the site of a former coal mine, we offer authentic underground tours, complemented by our museum and cafe. The Apedale Valley Railway operates at the same site, adding to a great family visit.
Fabulous experience visiting this museum. All the staff are lovely and very informative, Barrie especially went out of his way to give us lots of information, lovely guy. The museum is brilliant plenty to look at and well looked after . We did the coal mining tour, we had 2 tour guides Richard and Steve which they were brilliant at explaining and answering any questions. Very friendly. The mines are incredible, an experience I shall never forget. There is a cafe which is lovely, nice food and hot drinks for a good price. It Would be a great day out for all ages. Would recommend to anyone, I will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks again.
Lovely trip down a real Coal Mine. Richard as our guide was amazing and full of detail on life down the mines. Coming from a mining family with both my grandads down the local mines this was an amazing way to understand what life was like for them. Highly recommend.
This place is tidy enough with a good little museum. The staff in the cafe aren't very welcoming though which is a shame as it would definitely score higher.
This time we went down the coal mine. It was fascinating. The guide was an ex employee of the mine and he was very helpful and informative. All the staff were friendly. Most worthwhile and great value. It was bit tough on my back as the tunnels are quite low in places.
It's a great mining museum with lots to see. They also offer mine tours. I went on the standard one which lasted over 1 hour (nearly 2 on my visit), this was great with lots of information from Rob the tour guide on the route round. I definitely want to do the extended tours sometime in the near future, too. Cafe on site as well as great walks nearby.
My son and I loved our day out at Apedale. The mine tour was an eye opener and although the train ride was short it is worth the money if you have a budding train spotter with you. A great choice if you're looking for a reasonably cheap day out with the kids.
