This museum showcases the history and culture of Applecross, a small peninsula in northwest Scotland. The centre features exhibits on the area's rich heritage, including its Gaelic language, Celtic Christianity, and the history of the local clans. Visitors can explore displays on the region's natural environment, including its wildlife, geology, and marine life. The centre also offers insight into the lives of the people who lived in Applecross, with stories of their struggles, traditions, and way of life.
I would recommend visiting this place while you are at Applecross. You would spend maximum 1-2 hours, there is parking space and a beautiful beach rite in front of the center.
A really lovely and informative museum that is in an incredible setting A must when you visit the area !
Applecross is a must see. The worst part of this is tourists and camper drivers who think they can drive this and end up stuck and causing queues. The motor cyclists can be trouble too bursting past without much consideration. And the old classic cars that breakdown cos the drivers didnt think to check their coolant or brakes. Do a break check long before you even get to Strathcarron. Save yourself a recovery fee. The view is really something though.
A bit tucked out of the way, we'd have missed it if the campsite staff hadn't told us it was there. Interesting couple of hours, especially the local methods of lamb castration in past times (ouch!)..
You can spend ages in here reading about the history of the area from the early ages to modern day. Lots of fascinating stories about the brave, hardy folk from throughout the years and lots of information on family history too
Applecross was lovely. Very scenic. Quaint wee pub on the coast, which is nice. The Campsite - where do I begin? If youre travelling in a motorhome, don't stay here. Extremely disorganised, seems more geared up for tents. The showers, female ones, were almost clean, but did have a large number of flying creatures in them. Daddy long legs I think/hope. The organisation of the place is ... disjointed. To be nice. The allocation is haphazard, and disorganised. On a motorhome you need to charge and use the empty points, which are located at the entrance/exit. So it soon bottlenecks. If you're in the area, and you've calmed down after the drive I would stay on the front than in the Campsite.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Restaurant
Good for kids
