Peterhead Prison Museum

Our museum sits in a 6 acre site and visitors walk through time from 1888- 2013. During your tour you will hear how life was "within these walls" through a quality headset which incorporates the voices of ex-staff who worked within the former Victorian prison. At normal pace the tour takes about 1.5 hours, however once in you can spend as long as you want and examine the former prison in detail and at the end of the tour you can visit our newly opened "Refuge Cafe" named after the Harbour of Safe Refuge which the original inmates supported by breaking granite stones by hand at the nearby Stirlinghill Quarry. Something for all ages to learn from and enjoy. Open daily 10:00-18:00 with last entry being 16:30.

This is a self-guided walking tour around Peterhead - Aberdeenshire's biggest town - and highlights over four hundred years of history, stories, events, local scandals, gossip and sensations. Follow the Peterhead Town Trail for the whole torrid story of Britain's most easterly town. This is a free self-guided tour around Peterhead. 26 story boards tell tales from Peterhead's past. There are three routes - a short town centre route, a longer route incorporating the town centre and along the coast past Buchanhaven and the third is our brand new trail extension between Peterhead town centre and Prison Museum.

A good old fashioned museum on top of a lovely library. The stuffed animals and plastic robots made an endearing combo and the nooks and crannies revealed info about previous local celebs. A must see in NE Scotland.

Great for the kids. Lovely staff and you find out so much about Peterhead. Plus it doesn't cost much at all. Just a donation.

We found this Museum by accident and very glad we did. There is a room that kids can play in with dressing up and there is also a colouring in area too.
