Arnside Tower is a 15th-century tower house located in Cumbria, England. It stands as a testament to the region's medieval past, its stone walls bearing the scars of centuries of history. The tower's rugged facade is punctuated by narrow windows and a heavy oak door, while its battlements and machicolations evoke a sense of defensive strength. Despite its fortified appearance, Arnside Tower was likely built as a residence for a wealthy family, its interior featuring grand halls and chambers. Today, the tower remains an impressive and haunting presence, a reminder of the region's rich cultural heritage.
Easy to find from the public footpath. This tower is in a farmers field. There are warning signs not to enter the tower. There are no other information boards, so it is a bit of a mystery what you are actually looking at when you are there. Visit Cumbria has a short article about the tower.
Alongside a public footpath that runs through a working farm. Make sure to respect the area when passing through
Great place to come and explore. There are usually Horses roaming which are friendly and with the ruins in the background can offer good photo opportunities. Kids loved it.
Lovely impromptu walk on a lovely warm November Saturday. Many a year since visiting here, parked in Silverdale and walked along the coast to Arnside. And back via the Arnside knot and Arnside tower. Fantastic views of Lancashire one side and Cumbria the other! Can't wait to walk again, highly recommended! Lovely villages and views!
We are staying on Holgates caravan park, and went for a little walk and we came across the tower, we didn't realise how close it was, had a picnic and explored a bit. Was a lovely afternoon with lovely views.
Historic tower just outside Silverdale and Arnside, right by the Holgates Caravan Park. Probably not worthy of a trip to see it on its own but good to pop by and see it if you're in the area. Would make a nice spot for a picnic and just a short walk up from Silverdale.
