A tranquil haven of ancient woodland, heathland, and chalk downland, featuring a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the Dartford warbler and the silver-studded blue butterfly.
We ( family of four adults) did the walk up to Shoulder of Mutton hill last weekend. We took the longer, less steep route through the woods to get to the top ( entering through the path next to a pretty little waterfall ) and then the steeper, shorter route down the front of the hill to get back down. I think this is definitely the right way to do it. The view is hidden by trees as you walk up, then it is revealed at the top, and the walk down, with spectacular, far- reaching views all around you, is really beautiful. (You could do the shorter route up as well, but it would take some puff !) The views felt like a reward after the long, slow climb up. A lovely walk. We all enjoyed it.
Great place for dog walks or any walks for that matter
This is my back garden. Been walking dogs through these hangers for many years. Never get tired of the view from the Shoulder Of Mutton. This time of year, the Shoulder is covered with wildflowers that bring bees and butterflies to the hill.
A nice walk after lunch to use up the calories and a lovely view from a well placed and needed bench.
No official car park, you have to park along the roads. Beautiful scenery and views. Great place to walk the dog.
This spot is a climb from Petersfield, but totally worth it. There is a lovely view point from Poet's Hill. Top tip. There is no parking. You'll need to brave the incline. The reward is worth it once you're at the top.
