This former coal mine turned heritage trail showcases the industrial past of Northumberland, featuring a 4.5-mile walking and cycling route that follows the old colliery railway line. The trail takes visitors through a mix of urban and rural landscapes, passing by remnants of the coal mining industry, including the old pit yard and spoil heaps. Interpretation boards and sculptures along the route provide insight into the history of the colliery and its significance to the local community. The trail also offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside and opportunities to spot local wildlife.
Enjoyable walk, there are information points on the route, a few seats, feels safe
Nice quiet walk. Not very far but a few good grassy areas for the dog to run on and bins for their mess. Pond with swans, geese and ducks and dog friendly pub nearby so worth a visit on a sunny day.
Lovely walk loved looking at the memories. Quite emotional xx
Lovely place to feed the ducks/swans/seagulls. Lol. Make sure you take plenty. Lots of rails, so safer for the toddlers. Very scenic if you just want to stop and look around.
Don't feed ducks and swans bread. Wild bird seed mix or watery greens such as fresh lettuce are much healthier for these birds. There aren't any seats at this location (that we've found). The place seems like a half baked idea but it was nice to see the ducks and swans...but not the scrap in the water so clearly not maintained that well.
This is such a lovely place for a stroll round. A bit boggy underfoot in some areas but fine in your wellies!!
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
Dogs allowed
