Astley Castle is a 16th-century fortified house located in Astley, Warwickshire, England. The castle features a unique blend of medieval and Tudor architectural styles, with a mixture of stone and brick construction. Its facade is adorned with ornate stone carvings, and the building is surrounded by a moat, which is now dry. The castle has undergone several restorations and renovations over the centuries, resulting in a fascinating mix of original and reconstructed features.
I had a lovely walk here today and enjoyed the tranquility of the setting. Astley Castle, now a privately managed holiday let, can't be viewed except on certain days. Check with the Landmark Trust. But it still makes for an interesting walk as you get to read about the the long and interesting history of the the castle and history of its inhabitants. There are plenty of signboards to read.
This is a beautiful moated and fortified manor which is owned and managed by the Landmark Trust. It is open on designated days or it is available to stay in through the Trust website. It is amazing to see the original award winning building blending so well with a modern build within and incorporating part of the original building and features. There is a seating area outside which incorporates an original fireplace. The whole ambiance of the site is incredibly peaceful and tranquil with a small knot garden and seating areas. The views are impressive of the surrounding moat and parkland when viewed through the original ruined windows. The nearby church is of particular historical interest having beautifully carved monk resting seats. It was home to three different Queens. It is very atmospheric and is it haunted??? There is a cold atmosphere in an area of one of the rooms that overlooks a ruined staircase. Where I was standing it felt like a draught coming from behind me as though an open fireplace but no fireplace was there!
Absolutely beautiful space. The ruin if Astley has been lovingly conserved and developed into a holiday let that has been completed to a very high standard. The grounds are tranquil and quintessentially English countryside. The church within the grounds is full of historic features and connections to past lives. At the time of visiting there was an exhibition of photographs and recollections ofvthe Old School House also within the grounds. A beautiful and picturesque place a must to visit.
Nice place, didn't know it was there too be honest. I don't think it's a castle, I don't know why they call it that, looks more like and old mansion. Nice little cafe there, nice old church also and Astley Pool is close by.
Astley Castle, possibly more accurately described as a fortified manor house, is not normally open to the public. However, it does host open days several times each year. Home to three queens, it is interesting location to visit and has won awards after being converted into holiday accommodation after being left a derelict ruins following a fire in 1978.
Astley Castle, Landmark Trust is a historical site, but in a ruin building, there is a countryside open field and there is a lake. But the ruins are closed. You can go fishing and you can bring your kids. And the car park is free along with the field.
