Rural standing stone monument and 17th-century stables housing a museum to the iconic monument.
Magic stones around the village. You can walk through them and touch them. There is more than just one circle and also ancient mounds with lots of history behind them. It is a very recommended visit and if you like to explore everything you need more than just one day. Great views to take pictures all along the village. Great walks!
Amazing walks around the huge stone circle and ditch and bank. Free entry and only PS7 parking so it's far better value than other major tourist attractions. Large National Trust cafe. Lots to see in the village. Very unique site and incredibly old. Also well worth driving to the Silbury Hill viewing point.
We visited this place instead of going to see Stonehenge, and it was a pleasant surprise. The site is really vast, and nature is abundant. However, it could benefit from a bit more educational guidance--perhaps a few more signs to help guide visitors. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. The parking outside costs only 6 or 7 pounds, allowing you to park nearby while respecting the site and not disturbing the local residents.
It was a lovely sunny day, so the short walk from the car park to the barn and stones was very pleasant. Friendly, helpful staff made me feel welcome. I belong to the NT, and therefore, there were no additional charges for entry. The museum is very small and exhibits could be displayed in a more interesting way. Plenty of places to sit and refreshments were available at different sites. I enjoyed my afternoon.
I love this small town in the English countryside. I visited the smaller version of Stonehenge. It was less crowded and more relaxing. I was able to interact with the stones as opposed to Stonehenge.
I love coming to Avebury and I make the trek at least once a year. It's a lovely well kept ancient site and most people visiting are respectful. They have a couple quirky shops relevant to the old world theme and a Lovely National Trust cafe and gift shop. The Red Lion pub is the perfect end to a walk around and My husband will happily drive 2 hours for a pint of well water on tap.
