Victorian Gothic mansion on 36 acres housing local history exhibits, global artifacts & a gift shop.
It's a long time since we have visited and while it has changed it does seem to been more appropriate to young families who may not normally do museums. A few interactive items not working and the globe in the Africa section needs replacing as the UK has been fully rubbed off. But overall a nice little museum though desperately lacking a cafe.
Interesting museum and it's free! Lovely staff. Nice to walk around the grounds and down to the boating lake.
The Museum (FREE Entry !) also allows admission to the nearby Butterfly House (open April to Halloween). Although it is a small museum, it can nonetheless provide a good & interesting half day out - with the surrounding park & Butterfly House. Local History & Ancient Egypt are the principal themes, but there is also a well stocked shop with plenty of tempting souvenirs (especially for kids) & hot beverages. The staff are nice & friendly (& in the Butterfly House, quite knowledgeable as well !) Although I visited in mid August, there weren't a lot of Butterflies in the Butterfly House, but there was very cheap Tea & Coffee there (plus low cost souvernirs) - together with the chance to handle some bugs ! Worth a visit, definitely. Oh, and the toilets in the Museum are worth a visit too - for the art on display inside !
A great place to spend a morning or afternoon. Free parking and lots of walks and trails to enjoy. Staff were really friendly and enthusiastic, and (shoutout to Elizabeth!) gave us a basic run down of the history of the house and the story of Bagshaw on arrival which was a lovely touch! Three rooms to explore downstairs and three rooms upstairs, my favourite being the Eygpt room! Entry is free, and gift shop is reasonably priced.
I've not been here since I was a kid. Was really impressed at the displays and forgot that it had so much more than the Egyptian stuff that I was originally interested in as a kid. Also forgot just how steep the walk up to the museum was , but was definitely worth it . And it's free!
Interesting local museum with an international twist. Free entry but donations very welcome.
