Cozy museum in an 1836 church exploring local history & culture via hands-on exhibits & activities.
Visited with my wife, but there are plenty of things here for children. Some interesting facts on local history and it's cheap to get in. It is on 3 floors with some narrow steps, but there is a small lift.
What a brilliant place! It's so local to me but I've never been until this weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed the 'childhood' exhibition. The two ladies on the front desk were such a lovely welcome into the museum & so so helpful. I'll definitely be back!
Paid PS11 for adult and senior and if this exhibit were free it would still be over priced. Extremely disappointing, the staff must write their own reviews. Toy museum was a Barbie doll and a stickle brick, art exhibition were paintings by 5 year olds, mining museum was little bigger than a cupboard. What a waste of a building! Would have liked a refund.
We spent a wonderful rainy afternoon in this locally set up and run quaint little museum. We were made very welcome by the volunteer at the entrance. The ground floor charts Alnwick's history through interesting and interactive displays for both children and adults. The first floor houses regularly changing exhibitions. The theme was childhood for our visit which was imaginatively curated, again with plenty of interaction for people of all ages. The volunteers have clearly worked very hard to ensure children are included throughout the museum - they are encouraged to touch and play with objects and to draw and dress up. To be honest we three very senior visitors enjoyed the quizzes and dressing up! Don't miss this little gem in Alnwick.
Spent a very pleasant 2 hours here on Tuesday. The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful, spending lots of time explaining the exhibits to us and the children- would thoroughly recommend. The current exhibition on record covers is also well worth a look and very funny
Really interesting museum, lots of local history and lots of social history from 1800's onwards. My 2 teenage grandchildren were intrigued by all the hands on activities. Highly recommended!
