A really excellent local history museum; with so many stately options available locally, a fantastic example of 'normal' social history. Some really fantastic artifacts, including an elephants tooth! Really knowledgeable volunteers as well; had all the answers for my stupid questions!!
Visited Bakewell many many times from Glossop but never been to the museum. So glad we went today. It's a fascinating place with so much history and full of interesting exhibits. We were given a brief history of the Tudor building on arrival. Well worth the PS6.50 entrance fee. And worth the long steep walk up to it. Although you can drive. John & Jane Parkin. The church is also a very interesting place to visit just below.
A fascinating look at the 500 years history of a house. How it's changed and what it's been used for. So much to see might need more than 1 visit, but the good thing is your ticket lasts for 12 months.
On holiday in Derbyshire and as standard practice the British weather let us down. ! So...plan b put into action. At PS6.50 per adult entry fee it felt very reasonable. We were greeted by a lovely knowledgeable man who gave us a basic knowledge of the building before we watched a 10 min video on its history. A lot of the original building is still intact after 500 years. What an incredible place. Lots of information on the local area and artefacts on show.. We were there nearly 2 hours and enjoyed it immensely. There were even Tudor clothes there to dress up in .
Informative and interesting little museum. However, it would have been nice to be told at the point of ticket purchase that there was a school trip full of kids imminently arriving which meant we had to wait to get into some of the rooms as they were packed.
Having been to Bakewell on many occasions and we had never been to the Old House Museum so decided to visit. What a great place to find out about the house and Bakewell plus there are lots of memorbilia. There was a fantastic exhibition of 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II reign. The lady who was on duty was very knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth the PS6 entry (12 months)and the walk up the hill.
