Bassetts Mead is an area of just over 10 hectares of public open space. It became a SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space) in 2011 and is currently managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust for recreation and biodiversity, on behalf of Hook Parish Council. Please note, this is open natural space and does not contain toilets, cafes or play equipment. Bassetts Mead has the River Whitewater, a chalk stream, flowing along the eastern boundary. The habitats on-site comprise grazing meadow and floodplain habitat along with ponds, mature trees and woodland and bankside vegetation. The area is used by dog walkers and bird watchers alike and there is a circular walk around the site: Bassetts Mead Walk
A great place for walk, there are many public footpaths in this area so we often start here & then just explore using our map. Basset mead has diverse habitats including, river, meadow, wetland, woods & seasonal ponds. Cattle sometimes grazing but generally a good place for a dog walk. Lots of wildlife to spot & the railway runs along an embankment on the southern edge so good for little ones & trainspotting. Today we found a tunnel under the railway but on the opposite side of the river from Bassets mead.
It's a lovely little place for a dog walk, it has a little wood and it's by the water. Please note it's not big and currently there are cows grazing in half of it.
Lovely space for a relaxing dog walk...Meadows, river and bluebells....Perfect!
Lovely park, ideal for children who like to run around in open spaces. My children love to play in the river during the summer. Ideal for dog walking too.
Lovely walk with a small copse (with bluebells at the right time of year) and access for dogs to the River Whitewater.
Pleasant walk through fields and beside the river Whitewater. Dogs can be off lead and enjoy a dip in the river. A small car park and children,s play area.
