This 18th-century mansion showcases the life and legacy of Sir Frederick Law Oliver, a prominent local figure. The museum features an impressive collection of artifacts, artworks, and antiquities, including furniture, ceramics, and costumes. The house's grand rooms, such as the opulent drawing room and the wood-paneled library, have been meticulously restored to their original glory. The museum's gardens, designed by Oliver himself, offer a serene oasis with winding paths, a pond, and a variety of plant species.
Lovely place. Greeter made us feel very welcome. Pity the upstairs ceiling was damaged etc so we couldn't go upstairs. But was still very enjoyable. Play area and loads of grass for those who have kids to play on outside too. Will definately be coming back.
Really enjoyed the visit plenty to see & read Rural crafts tho upstairs not open as the ceiling has collapsed so closed to public. Will open up when repairs completed
A lovely 18th-century manor of the Nelthorpe family, now with a small museum collection. Some beautiful original features. George Stubbs was sponsored by the Nelthorpes as a young man when they lived here.
Some interesting local history, but there are displays upstairs, with no lift. Open at weekends, so useful educational entertainment for the family.
Nice place. No litter or graphity. Very green beautiful place. One disappointment was a stray condom on the path near the museum !
Not a great deal to do, worth a visit with the kids if you've not been before. Volunteers were friendly.
