This scenic viewpoint on the Isle of Skye offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the rugged Cuillin Hills and the sparkling waters of Loch Slapin. On a clear day, the vista stretches as far as the mainland, with the mountains of Rum and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula visible in the distance. The viewpoint is surrounded by rolling hills and heather-covered moorland, and is a popular spot for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers.
Beautiful view! Weather dependant ofcourse. We went over twice. The first day it was clear. The second was a bit scary as it was thick with low cloud. I love mountains, even when they are moody. Please drive safely and slowly. We saw male deer's on our drive.
It is one of the best (or worst) roads to drive to. Very steep, winding road with passing places every 200yds or so. The views when at the top are very impressive. There is a tea/coffee place at the top, but it wasn't open for some reason I camped up there, and it gets very windy. Drove back down early the next day ( no cars on road )and the place was covered in mist.
A fantastic must see on the NC500. Even on a rainy and cloudy day we enjoyed the unique driving experience. Only down side are the Cannonbaws touring cars who often drive along in convoy and act like they own the road, forcing other drivers to stop even when the passing place is on their side of the road.
This is not a road for the faint hearted, but a spectacular drive for anyone who loves precision driving, and the views and the most spectacular, you will see anywhere in the country. Just remember to plan ahead DO NOT: Park in passing places. Use passing places to let faster vehicles pass you. NO WIDE or LARGE CAMPER VANS, as these often close the road, and spoil the experience for others.
We drove to this road from ullapool on the road via lochcarron. The road to the viewpoint is very pretty. The road itself upto the baelach na ba viewpoint is very twisty and turny, but think there are only 3 hairpin bends. Two uphill and one down. There was a lorry up there who had to do 3 point turns to get around the hairpin bends. We did it in a transit van and it was fine, just make use of the passing places. I was a little nervous but overall it was fine. As long as you can drive and manoeuvre your vehicle with confidence you'll be fine. Basically if a car is coming the other way be prepared you might have to reverse back into a passing place (which could be around a bend). The viewpoint itself was underwhelming compared to the stunning views of the road upto the viewpoint. That is where the main character is...on the road up and down to the viewpoint. We then continued our route to applecross and followed the coastal road all the way back to torrindon and upto Ullapool. That took around 2 hours but was so beautiful and deserted. The only downside to this route was that there weren't really any parking places or stopping points. The scenery was that spectacular but there was nowhere to safely stop your car to admire it (unless you were blocking a passing place). It was a beautiful drive but we missed not being able to get out and admire it in the solitude of the outdoors.
Great Viewpoint on the NC500. Luckily for the time of year we had good weather. Very cold at the top but wow what a drive! We had it pretty much to ourselves, so it was great. Take it slow and drive careful. Would 100% recommend.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Good for kids
