This is a place of really significant historical importance. During World War Two, Beaulieu Heath was home to Beaulieu Airfield. One of many small bases dotted around the UK, from which missions were flown to targets around Northern Europe. Mainly used by American aircraft during the war, it was also used by the RAF and then civilian aircraft before being closed. There is still a short length of one of the runways present, which is used today by model aircraft enthusiasts but the rest was removed and returned to the forest after closure. Interestingly some of the concrete roads and foundations remain and the 'A' shape of the crossing runways can still clearly be seen from the air.
Lovely flat walk and not too flooded in winter. Lots of areas to explore. Dress warmly however, as the wind does whip across!
