Statue & tombstone dedicated to the faithful hound of a medieval prince in a popular folk tale.
The most beautiful small town in Snowdonia in my opinion. It's people are very friendly! There are many beautiful walks and the grave of Gelert is set in a field under a tree. I would advise you visit the grave early in the morning, because it does get busy. There is a beautiful river running through the town and many scenic walks. There are tea rooms, restaurants and pubs too.
Don't know what's the truth behind myth or story but it is an awesome place to walk around. It's a walk from village to Bedd Gelert grave and carry on beside the river. Best area for picnic, walk, dog walk or cycling. Unforgetable place to enjoy either in summer or autumn. There's two points to visit around. One is the actual grave under the tree and second sculpture in a remade stone house. Worth to visit both.
This is the true side of North Wales. Laid back yet accommodating people who are visiting. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Bedgelert including Gelert's Grave, the famous hound after which the town is named. Several hotels and coffee shops and many natural wonders and nature trails. This is a wonderful place!
We've been wanting to visit the place and we are so glad that we did. Visiting his grave made me so emotional. He is such a good boy so I gave him lots of petting(weird but idc) I put my favorite bracelets there because I didnt have any coins with me and put some flowers on his grave because I just want to. Would like to visit again soon. I hope they clean his grave time to time. The entire village is also really nice. We enjoyed it there.
Amazing story, short walk from the village. Beautiful surroundings. My heart can't wait to go back
Must visit when in Beddgelert. Lovely easy walk by the river and then grassland. You can also make the walk longer by doing a loop (there are maps to illustrate the walks) Had to say hi to the good boi Gelert :)
