This reserve encompasses the entire Ben Wyvis mountain massif, including the highest peak in the north of Scotland, Ben Wyvis itself, which rises to 1,046m. The reserve's diverse landscape features heather-covered moorland, rocky outcrops, and sparkling lochs, providing a habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna, including red deer, golden eagles, and dotterel. The terrain is dotted with ancient monuments, including Bronze Age cairns and stone circles, while the surrounding countryside is characterized by rolling hills, wooded glens, and picturesque villages.
The walk in from the car park is easy going, as you start the ascend on to the boulder steps it is manageable with ease depending on weather conditions. As you reach the top of the climb to the first cairn it is another 30-45min walk along the top to the summit of Ben Wyvis
Good parking spot and a really good hike to the top of Ben Wyvis. It took me under 2,5 hours to the top and under 1,5 down back to the parking lot. So in short: you got a afternoon left, hike this one up on a clear day for a beauty of a 360 degrees view.
Nice area with walks for all levels. Lots of birds around including Ptarmigan, Grouse, Long Tailed Tits and Red kites. Car park gets very busy at weekends all year round. Not wheelchair friendly..
Lovely and varied in difficulty walk up Ben Wyvis. Beautiful dramatic scenery.
Fabulous, long hike (even in less-than-perfect conditions). Can be super-windy up top so dress accordingly, even when it's tranquil at the base. Worth the effort to hoof it on up to the top after first false summit. The dog also loved it to bits (except that super-windy part!) Bonus? This'll sort you out for 30,000 Fitbit steps.
Amazing walk and beautiful views.
