Benmore, a regional garden of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, is a magnificent 120-acre mountainside Garden surrounded by the dramatic scenery of Argyllshire. Steeped in history, Benmore is home to a world-famous collection of plants from regions ranging from the Himalaya, China and Japan to North and South America. Benmore welcomes visitors through an avenue of 150 year old giant redwoods, arguably one of the finest entrances to any botanic garden. Other highlights include the beautiful Victorian Fernery, the Garden's meticulously restored Golden Gates and the Bhutanese and Chilean pavilions. Open daily from 1 March - 31 October.
This place is beautiful, amazing and very educational. Far more than just a botanical garden. Every turn brings a different view and vibe. The regional areas are well thought out so the higher you climb the area is climate appropriate. It can be steep in places but it's worth the extra effort just for those views..... we stayed all afternoon and could have easily done a full day as we missed a couple of sections.
We got the annual joint subscription this year and have visited all the gardens. We love the natural feel of Benmore Gardens. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and my personal favourite was the Fernery.we look forward to our next visit!
Beautiful gardens. We went at the end of May and unfortunately most of the rhododendron were out of flower. The giant redwoods are very impressive unfortunately work was being done on the "avenue" so couldn't walk down it. Could still walk around the outside of the avenue. A vast site so recommend at least a couple hours. Some areas are wheelchair accessible. Most of the rhododendron are on a steep hill walk. There's a squirrel hide to watch for red squirrels but if there's no food out you're not likely to see any. Large car park. Friendly and helpful staff. Worth a visit!
Beautiful! We were lucky to see red squirrels, gorgeous birds, the most amazing trees and plants, and even a deer! There's also a lovely little gift shop and food van selling very reasonably priced food and drinks.
Very extensive trails. Interesting plants, great views and not too crowded. Also had the BEST Cajun fries at the food stall. Just a lovely way to spend a day in 'nature'.
What an amazing place. Lots to see and explore There are so many amazing mountain views. Lots of viewing areas. Some are quite a walk but so worth it. It was only PS10 to view it all. Well worth the entrance fee. They also had a small cafe which I didn't stop for as I had just had a big breakfast but the latte was good from the outside cabin.
