Located within a Grade II* listed Mansion House in Stanmore, North West London, Bentley Priory Museum tells one of the most important narratives of modern history - how the Battle of Britain was won. Bentley Priory was Headquarters Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain, and the Museum explores how technology, leadership and courage forged victory, enabling Britain's darkest hour to also be her finest hour. The Museum highlights the contribution and importance of 'The One', Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, 'The Few', the aircrew who took to the skies to defend Britain, and 'The Many', without whose tireless work on the ground victory would not have been possible.
Stop at the security gates, you're in the right place. Drive past the small houses to the car park. It's a single themed museum focused around the Battle of Britain and WW2. All really interesting with some imaginative interactive displays. Also watch the film, 12 minutes very well constructed... with a twist...hush hush. Brilliant volunteers with more information than you'll remember. Pleasant tea room with the full range of snacks and CAKES . Lastly trot down and see how thick the nuclear bunker doors are. Finally there's a small picnic area. Enjoy.
A wonderful museum in a great setting. Very informative with lovely friendly staff. Cafe was out of this world with great coffee and cakes. Very good value. Minestrone soup for lunch (haha made) was delicious. The Italian Garden was beautiful. Very envious of some of the houses built on the campus. It's really worth a visit - historically really important, and I sense not well known.
A delightful insight into the values that people most admire. The museum is interesting, but the volunteers with their wealth of knowledge and grand parent like way of expressing themselves patiently to anyone willing to listen add a dimension that make each visit worthwhile.
Brilliant museum in a beautiful mansion. Super knowledgeable staff who were friendly and welcoming. Very reasonably priced and I actually think that an increase would still make it value for money. Everything displayed incredibly well, including photographs and medals with the stories of the pilots - really interesting - and also heart warming when you knew someone had come through the war and made a life beyond. Very atmospheric film show describing Dowding and his contribution to the outcome of the Battle of Britain. Lovely tea room with nice outside seating overlooking the gardens, along with a small area with gifts. Please do go along as this place is so very important in the story of the generation that fought for the freedoms we have today.
I visited with my family on a Saturday afternoon. The museum was pristine, it is the cleanest and well developed museum I have been to recently, and I've been to a lot of museums. I was very impressed by every member of staff, they were very polite and welcoming from the moment we stepped in the door. Each member of staff were very knolegable about the history. The museum was very engaging for children and adults. I loved the film at the start. Thank you for a great day.
In 2009, I had the opportunity to visit this location with my father when the company he was employed by acquired the land. At that time, there were no houses built on the site, and it remained in its original condition. Little did I know, as I sat at a desk in an office filled with old paperwork, that I was actually occupying the very chair once used by Sir Hugh Dowding. Remarkably, that office, desk, and original chair have been preserved to this day. The site holds immense historical significance, and it was particularly meaningful for me to learn about its connection to such an esteemed figure.
