Restored windmill built in 1846 with a working bakery & tearoom as well as resident goats & sheep.
Went with grandsons aged 4 and 7. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Climbing to the top of the mill not for the faint hearted. Boys enjoyed playing being a miller and ticking off objects on the detective trail, rewarded with a sweet and badge. A small play area kept them amused. They loved making a loaf of bread to take home. Cafe was very busy but plenty of space outside to enjoy a cup of tea and cake. Kids lunch boxes were a little pricey but they enjoyed them. All in all a great day.
Lovely way to spend a windy day in North Norfolk. Great experience for children who like to bake. We made a delicious loaf of bread together. Whilst the bread proved we climbed the windmill which is not for the faint hearted. Sensible shoes and strong legs required to reach the top. While our bread made it to the oven, we stopped in the cafe for a lovely lunch. Followed by some butter making and a wonder around the "museum" and run around the play area. We bought home our loaf, butter and an arm full of amazing doughnuts along with happy children. Overall a lovely day trip out on a day the weather was too poor to visit the beaches.
I have brought my family for a day trip and my 3 year old and 14 year loved it. The staff are amazing, prices very reasonable, the bread making experience was fun, the history and going up the mill was really interesting and they have really made an effort explaining how it all worked. The views are great and you can walk out on the outside. Even my 3 year old wanted to do that. We had chosen a rainy day but if it was dry they have a sand pit and slide etc to enjoy. Getting a 14 year off his gadgets and experience he even said that it was fun. The food is great with fresh bread, buns scones, cupcakes to buy. Nest time we are in this area we will definitely return .
Great to see a working milll and go up inside. Staff were helpful. Bread smells amazing. Cafe had run out of few things as we arrived at 1:45pm. Food was average and milkshake was poor so avoid those. All in all a pleasant day out.
We really enjoyed our visit here. Lots of free car parking. The tearooms were lovely and the food was excellent. There is a nice gift shop attached. The gardens were pretty and some activities for young children. The barns had activities in them. The windmill has a bakery at the bottom. The stairs in the windmill are small/steep and only for the able! The children felt a great achievement in getting to the top and coming back down again! My elderly parents still really enjoyed their time even without going up the windmill. We chose to make some bread from scratch which we really enjoyed. Everything is laid out ready and full instructions. Good idea to do this first as it takes time to do, then you can enjoy doing something else while your bread bakes.
We went as a group of grandparents, parents and grandchildren ( 7 to 79 years old) and decided to bake our own bread from scratch. We thoroughly enjoyed the process of making, kneeding and proving the dough and all our loaves came out really well. The grandchildren couldn't wait to eat their creations as soon as they got home. We climbed to the top of the windmill and had lunch in the gardens. There are interactive displays and games in the barns which we all enjoyed. My only criticism is that the bread making is only available from 10am - 2pm which is not enough time to accommodate everyone during the school holidays. It was packed and a lot of people including us were told to come back in 20 minutes. The problem with that was that in the mean time other people were arriving and going in ahead of us. We asked one of the staff to reserve a spot for us which was the only way we managed to get in during the allotted time. A ticket system might be an idea for busy times of year. That said it didn't spoil our visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh, and the cakes and buns made on site for sale in the cafe were very good.
