The Museum is currently closed for winter maintenance, reopening on Saturday 27 January. Experience sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Black Country as you explore shops, houses and industrial workshops rebuilt in our canalside village. From the Industrial Revolution to post-war prosperity, discover the history of a small region that made a big impact on the people, culture and industry of the world as you say "ow am ya" to the people that made this place home, from metalworkers and miners to nurses and schoolteachers - and even a pub landlord or two. What's more, when you pay for just one day, we give you a ticket to return as many times as you would like for a whole year with our UnChained Annual Pass - at no extra charge!
A massively enjoyable day out! You see many of the different aspects of life, and learn about the different people and roles in the community in such a unique way. I left with a lot of empathy and desire to learn more. The staff are amazingly engaging too. With such a range of different people and personalities playing characters within the museum, you really get the feeling of a proper community. They seem to do a lot of research and educational work too which is great to see! Inspiring new generations, and safeguarding the stories of past generations.
Excellent day out! You need the minimum of 4 hours to enjoy it all. So relaxed, it's was just so good for all ages. We enjoyed talking to the people we met, in their fabulous costumes.....all very realistic. You really do take a step back in time here. We had a fantastic day here. The canal & caverns barge trip is well worth it too! It's very clean everywhere, everyone was friendly and helpful with explanations on anything you ask. One of our best days out!
Fantastic day out for all. Myself and my husband love coming here. Staff are so knowledgeable. Loved the sausage and tomato cob from the butches and a cheeky cider in the pub, then delicious chips . Hadn't been given the market shops opened and have to say it was incredible well worth every penny. Black country Museum is amazing.
Absolutely had a fun time at the black country museum, very educational for the young and the old, every bit of this place has much to offer, bit do watch the uneven grounds has you walk around, the staff are helpful, informative and fish and chips are yummy they serve vegan has well as beef dripping chips, the post office sells some lovely sweets. We have passes to go back this year so we will. The mine experience was fab, took my 5 year old and 10 year old, they braved the darkness, you do given torches but during the tour the torches go out,, its free to go on but watch your heads and you do have to wear an helmet. The gift shop sells everything black country to peaky blinders and more.
What a fantastic museum. Filled with houses, businesses, a school, a mine & various other buildings of the time to explore. The school with the strict headmaster giving us all a lesson was fantastic. The pub with the sawdust floor was great to visit for a drink. Also the fish & chip shop was a great stop off for lunch. Took a ride around the site on an old fashioned bus. The attention to detail is fantastic.
By far one of my favourite places to visit! The museum is incredible, the staff/ actors are so knowledgeable and friendly. The detail that has gone into creating every element of the site is phenomenal and there's truly something for all ages. The only critique I would make is the fact it can be hard to get around to everything on the day of your visit as a lot of the demos are on at the same time. It'd be great if the times for each are published ahead of time on the website or something so you can play your day out accordingly. That said the annual pass is great, so you can revisit should you wish/ don't live too far away, (sadly we live 2.5 hours away but have still revisited a few times now, as it's just too good to miss and gets better every time!)
