18th-century decorative castle on a picturesque estate with a 19th-century house & art museum.
Beautiful woodlands walks and picnic spots. The castle was smaller than we expected and you cannot go in. There is quite a large area to explore and find picnic spots. Good for exploring with or without kids and dogs.
A quiet Sunday for a family day out. Parking was limited at 12pm as the overflow car park was shut at the time of arrival however plenty of space for all to play. Only criticism if anything, there was no adequate signage for the castle through the trees and if not careful, you end up going down to the river rather than up to the castle.
Amazing place. It is huge and quiet enough to have your own space for your solace. You will love the green noise (birds chirping, water streaming).
A large park estate with a river flowing through. There are a variety of mature trees. There is a folly and a large house that is open to visitors, but check the opening times as it is not open all the time. There is a also a great large playground for the kids. There is a decent cafe near the playground.
Only can comment on the parkrun route and Cafe. Beautiful gardens area with some slightly undulating parts. Lovely cafe selling a wide range of things We had an oat milk iced latte and these were lovely. Toilets were a tad untidy and could have done with a thorough clean. Cheap parking
Great walk, a little muddy in places. Parked in the main carpark, prices not too bad. Walked to the museum building, which is closed this time of year, The mill, Woodmans cottage then to Rustic lodge. Lovely walk along the river and the fall. Then up to the castle itself. Great views from there. Great for walking dogs and kids as there are play parks near the toilets and cafe. A great day out.
